Product overview

Daily Spelling targets fluent adult English speakers who recognise words but sometimes struggle to reproduce their spelling. The intended outcome is measurable spelling improvement through continued use, not merely engagement.

One shared public word each day, with regional display spelling, pronunciation, definition and example sentence. The first attempt reveals no letter count. Failed attempts lead to alignment-aware guided correction and a final clean recall. A truthful streak and rolling consistency signal encourage habit formation without penalising ordinary Practice use.

Open-ended adaptive practice chooses fresh, missed and long-term review words using ability, uncertainty, written-exposure history and per-word memory. There is no mandatory daily quota. A short-term challenge controller keeps sessions encouraging without manipulating the measured underlying ability. Practice makes progress visible through meaningful rank milestones rather than a pseudo-precise score.

Users can Get started locally with no account or Sign in using Apple/Google to restore an existing profile. Onboarding includes spelling locale, optional voice download/device TTS, a brief adaptive self-rating and preferred reminder window. Confidence from actual spelling evidence — not self-rating alone — determines the first visible rank.

Visible academic bands are Primary, Secondary, University, Graduate, Scholar, Professor and Lexicographer, each with Bronze/Silver/Gold tiers. Promotion and demotion thresholds include hysteresis to avoid frequent rank oscillations.

Core learning remains free and useful. Word Packs, payments and other monetisation are future extensions, not required to ship an initial release. The detailed MVP feature specification controls scope.
